Rivian Material Specifications
Rivian material standards specify steel grades for electric truck and SUV body-in-white and structural applications. Ameristeel supplies Rivian-specified cold rolled and hot rolled steel including drawing-quality, HSLA, bake-hardenable, dual-phase, TRIP, and martensitic AHSS grades with galvanized, electrogalvanized, galvanneal, and zinc-magnesium-aluminum coating options required for EV platform production. These grades are stocked in coils and sheets at our Fraser, MI facility and can be processed into blanks via slitting or cut-to-length for prototype development and full production runs. About RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS
RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS is a martensitic grade cold rolled steel conforming to the rivian material specifications. At 1350 MPa minimum yield strength, this is extreme-performance martensitic steel for the most demanding anti-intrusion applications requiring peak load-bearing capacity, with extreme tensile strength for maximum occupant protection performance in the most severe crash scenarios.
RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS is a Martensitic steel at 1350 MPa yield and 1700 MPa tensile. The predominantly martensitic microstructure provides the highest strength levels in the RMS specification family, targeting anti-intrusion barriers and structural reinforcements where maximum load-bearing capacity takes priority over formability.
Ameristeel stocks RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS in production-ready gauges and widths suited to high-strength stamping applications. As a 1350 MPa yield cold rolled product, this specification is available in coil, sheet, and precision-blanked formats. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility triple-tests every coil (ID, OD, and center) to verify mechanical properties remain consistent throughout the entire length.
RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS is supplied with the following coating options: hot-dip galvanized (zinc) for general corrosion resistance; galvanneal (zinc-iron alloy) for superior paint adhesion and weldability; electrogalvanized for precise coating weight control and smooth surface finish; zinc-magnesium for enhanced edge and cut-edge corrosion protection; aluminized for high-temperature oxidation resistance. At 1350 MPa yield, the coating selection for RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS should account for forming severity and post-stamping corrosion exposure in the final application.
RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS at 1350 MPa yield and 1700 MPa tensile compares to RMS-1021 CR-1200Y-1500T-MS (150 MPa higher yield at 1200 MPa and 1700 MPa vs 1500 MPa tensile) and RMS-1021 CR-1150Y-1270T-DP (200 MPa higher yield at 1150 MPa and 1700 MPa vs 1270 MPa tensile). Selecting the right grade depends on the balance between strength requirements and forming complexity for your specific stamping application.
RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS is an OEM-specific grade developed to meet Rivian engineering requirements for vehicle body and structural applications. Ameristeel supplies Rivian-specified steel grades directly to Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers throughout Southeast Michigan, with full material traceability and third-party test reports on every coil. As an EV-platform specification, RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS addresses the unique structural and lightweight demands of battery electric vehicle architecture, including battery enclosure protection and optimized crash energy management. Our Fraser, MI steel processing facility maintains dedicated inventory of RMS-1021 CR-1350Y-1700T-MS to support just-in-time delivery schedules, and our ISO 9001:2015 quality system ensures that every shipment meets the exact mechanical property, surface quality, and dimensional tolerances required by Rivian production standards.
