SAE J2340 490X is a hsla 70 grade cold rolled / hot rolled steel conforming to the sae standards. At 490 MPa minimum yield strength, this is advanced-strength steel for B-pillar reinforcements, side impact beams, and roof bow structures.

The X suffix denotes solution-hardened (micro-alloyed) HSLA steel with niobium, vanadium, or titanium additions for grain refinement and precipitation strengthening.
